Sound Treatment Group Project

Kid at home all by their lonesome in the darkness. He begins hearing noises in the darkness of his home and he becomes paranoid. All the noises he hears are just normal noises you hear in real life. His paranoia makes him think that these sounds are going to get him in some way. He begins to make himself go crazy thinking about these noises and when they will stop.

Storyline:

Once the night time approaches, the audience can begin to see that the main character sits at home uncomfortably at night time, because of these noises the s/he can hear. These noises are just coming from everyday home appliances,  and the wind from outside the window, but s/he thinks of these noises as noises that no one hears everyday.

Blood In Blood Out (Bound By Honor) Part 3

Film Narrative

The film's story is told throughout many years. It jumps around through time periods as the actors are shown getting older and older as the film goes on. But the story is being told throughout many years. The film is set up by plot sequence. The plot evolves a lot as the film progresses; the films length would make it hard for many people to follow the story as it goes on. I've seen this film countless times and today I sometimes still have trouble finding out what happened to certain characters. Our engagement with the characters should make us feel close to the characters in many ways. The use of close ups make us feel like part of the film and like we are right there with all of the rest of the characters.

The characters and their issues are all represented through some kind of money or drug problem. Throughout the entire movie that is all that they talk about. Perhaps it may be because they are always in prison and that's all they deal with in there, but even as soon as the movie starts, the main characters mother is talking about money and how she needs it. So that's one of the ways the characters solve their problems. Another way is through people in general; in the prison where people are the strongest people they have ever been. They always want to trade the main character to the White Gang, because his skin color is white, even though he is Mexican-American on the inside. The style of the acting seems very real. It seems real, just as all good films do.
The performance is also very well played by all actors, some of which did other movies as well, but are most known for their role in this film. The meaning is created with the camera angles by making some of the shots seem more superior than the others by the way they were shot
. The meaning is also created by the editing of the film. The time periods that this film took place in show the strength of all the characters and what they have gone through. Every time many years pass on by, the shot is established with the year introducing the scene. Telling the audience the main character has spent an amount of years in prison since the last time the year was shown. The lighting is just a big part of the film as the editing. The lightning also shows the strength of he characters in some certain scenes. In one perticular scene the main character is shown in prison talking to his cousin who is a police officer. So they are against each other, but the director used over the shoulder shots and darkness on their faces to show the emotions between the two. The music and the sounds in this film are a huge part of the movie. Throughout the entire film, there is always dramatic music playing, or music that fits the scene; which is usually just Spanish guitar stuff, or some kind of wind music. But it definitely plays a big part in the film, showing the scene and foreshadowing what will happen next in the film. The location of which the film was shot surely plays an important role in the film. Everything was shot on location in Los Angeles, and in San Quentin state prison. Many of the convicts shown in the background were not extras however, they were just regular convicts doing time in the prison, and happened to be there while the film was being shot. The only symbols used in the film are symbols of God to show courage within the characters and to show that they do still believe even in hard times during the film.
No real meaning was created in the film which any kind of visual effects except for maybe blood when people died to sell it easier. The information used in the film that I found emotional was probably just the fact that most of the background convicts were really there doing time, and were not just there because of the filming of this movie.

Blood In Blood Out (Bound By Honor) (1993) Part 2

 Part 2
Other films that were made that reflect on Blood In Blood Out would be films like Selena (1997), La Bamba (1987), and Stand and Deliver (1988). These films all relate back to Blood In Blood Out when you think of the Coming of Age story. These films also go along with the historical background of a Latino family and how they overcome their family issues and realize what is better in life.
The film was an important document on the films time period, for the Mexican American films, this film really set up good features for otherts to come. These actors were used in more Mexican American movies like in La Mission (2010). And I think that the entire culture can relate to this story because all families can relate to the coming of age story and growing up with family, but the way the script was written in this film made me think hard about what is said, and it makes a really strong point throughout the entire film. Even though the work can be admired by all ethnicities, the main one that can see the films true strong points through the eyes of the Mexican American culture.

Blood In Blood Out (Bound By Honor) (1993) Section 1

 Part I

Genre and Audience:
The tradition/genre of this movie Hispanic. But I think that anybody can watch this film any enjoy it without being of Hispanic. Anybody can watch this film if they are interested in family and film that take on family issues. It can also relate to a coming of age story, with 3 kids that have to make hard choices in life and how they make those choices.

The features that determine the genre are basically everything that takes place in the film. The film opens up with Hispanic dancers and the audience can easily see that the movie relates to the Hispanic background.

The other work that it can be related to would probably be any other ethnicity, all are included in this film, and all play a big part. This film was directed by Taylor Hackford. We can tell the creators are heavily interested in all the ethnicity's involved in the film. Considering all the different people who are involved in the film. It relates to the directors other work because of the theme it puts across. The theme is family, and how to choose your REAL family over your friends. Other work by this director would be the film Ray. The target audience would be anyone who is interested in their background or anyone elses background. OR someone who would like to see what life is behind prison walls.

The Hurt Locker Response

I would like to start by saying that this movie was really appealing to me. This was one of the best films I have seen hands down. As soon as it began, I had my eyes open through the rest of the film. It was really interesting to me and I really enjoyed watching it.

I thought that the director made a really good film. It made me feel like a better person in the end. And the director really got their point across well. The film made a point to me, where it made me feel like I had to respect life more and enjoy what it has to offer. Make what i can of my friends because they might not always be guaranteed to always be there later on. I felt this way once Beckems body was found on that table in the rundown building.

It thought that the setting was great. if the film took place in another war, i dont think i would have got the same message. the film was strong because of the modern time setting. and it made me feel more related to those that i personally know that serve in the military, and it made me realize that this film is an everyday reality for those people. I also thought that the actors did a great job portraying the real life aspects in the film.

The lighting in the film was great! It really came out well where it was needed. Especially when it went pitch black for a couple of minutes while the soldiers were fighting to protect the people when the tanks exploded. the angles in the film were also interesting to me. the shots chosen by the directors were eye opening. especially during the scene when the Americans were on the ridge all day trying to snipe the terrorists on the opposite side.

it almost didnt even seem as if the film was edited. the cutting was very smooth and it almost didnt even seem real. the movie almost seemed like one continuous shot. So i guess the style can be called more real then expected. most war action movies cut when you dont really want them too. but in this film, it cut as soon as i wanted to see what it was going to show in the next shot. the parallel action was really nerve racking when they were showing the suspisious people with the camera during the scene when the bomb was being disarmed in the parked car.

I thought that the script was realistic. Its the same stuff that you usually hear in your typical war action movies. But this movie didnt actually have side against side action, and it was more like suspenseful waiting while they tried to disarm bombs. So i thought the script was well written for the suspense that the movie had to offer. When the soliders would yell at each other to leave or abandon the current objective

im not sure what i would set this movie under as far as genres go. I would have to say i would put it under action/suspense. Instead of a regular war based movie, this one reminded more of a film like Inception, where theres more suspense inside then there is action.
